New packs roll out amid c-store growth

Mars Petcare has launched new PMPs across three of its brands. The roll out follows the release of its first annual category insights report: The Rising Power of Pets in Pandemic Britain

CONSUMERS looking for value when it comes time to feed their four-legged friends have some new options.

Mars Petcare has expanded its price-marked pack range with the launch of three new PMPs.

The pet food firm is now offering PMPs ranging from £3.75 to £4.75 across its Pedigree, Sheeba and Cesar brands.

Pedigree Pouches 12-pack is available in a £3.75 PMP, while Cesar Trays 8-pack and Sheba Pouches 12-pack both carry a £4.75 RRP price-mark.

The launch of the new PMPs is being supported by new merchandising advice and planograms from Mars Petcare.

Mars Petcare’s decision to launch new PMPs follows the release of its first annual petcare category report – The Rising Power of Pets in Pandemic Britain.

The report revealed that pet owners spend 26% more on groceries on average when compared to their non-pet owning counterparts.

It also revealed that last year, petcare sales were up 3.1% in the convenience channel, a growth rate nearly twice that of the total UK grocery market over the last 12 month period.

Alex Smith, convenience channel director at Mars Petcare UK said: “After a challenging year for many, we recognise that shopper habits and priorities have changed and we’re adapting our range and recommendations accordingly. Cesar Trays are growing at 8%, while Sheba Pouches are seeing growth of 14%, and as premium options they are ideal at encouraging shoppers to spend a little more to treat their beloved pets.

“Having these available in a PMP helps them feel as though they are getting great value from their local convenience store.

“In addition to rolling out these PMPs, we are also working with retailers in the channel to showcase our new ‘Dream 16’ core range.

“This is a selection of must-stock products from our well-loved brands – Whiskas, Pedigree, Sheba, Cesar, Dreamies and Catsan – which we have specifically selected to drive sales success for our convenience customers.

“We are set to inspire retailers with ‘Dream 16’ and show them the opportunity the petcare category represents – we have big plans for the year ahead and look forward to supporting the channel.”
