THE case for better protection of retail workers was again made to the UK Home Office when NFRN President Mike Mitchelson addressed MPs and ministers on industry concerns.

Mitchelson highlighted the safety fears that NFRN members face, particularly when selling age-restricted products.

He said: “Shop owners and their staff do feel vulnerable, particularly when they are confronted by angry customers.

“Everyone behind a counter needs to feel they have the law on their side and the protection of police and those are points that we stressed.”
