Ferrero has extended its Kinder Surprise Easter range with licensed shell eggs.

EASTER comes later in the year in 2019 — falling on 21 April — giving retailers a big opportunity to drum up some seasonal sales.

There are certainly plenty of options to choose from this year, with confectionery giant Ferrero stepping up its offer with a raft of NPD tailored to the Easter occasion.

• Ferrero has launched two new 220g eggs into its Kinder Surprise range, following on from the success of its 100g egg in 2018. The eggs include bigger toys and licences for popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Powerpuff Girls characters which Ferrero reckons will drive growth through their broad appeal.

The Kinder seasonal range has also been extended with the launch of a five-strong range of Kinder Surprise 36g hollow figures, sporting seasonal characters and designs.

The entire Kinder portfolio will be supported by a media push across key channels- with a campaign focusing on the toy that comes as part of Kinder Surprise.

Ferrero Rocher luxury egg

• Ferrero’s Thorntons range has also had its Easter offer extended with the launch of three new “luxury eggs”. Available in White Chocolate & Raspberry, Milk Chocolate Almond & Hazelnut, and Dark Chocolate flavours, the three  eggs are targeted at younger, affluent shoppers according to Ferrero customer development director Levi Boorer.

Boorer also highlighted a revamp of the two-strong Ferrero Rocher shell egg range as a potential key sales driver for the firm.

“The popular 212.5g and 275g luxury Ferrero Rocher eggs saw sales increase by 70% year on year in 2018, with the larger egg ranking third overall in the luxury eggs category. Both products will receive a makeover for 2019 to provide greater stand out on shelf, whilst also highlighting the quality of products inside,” he said.

• Taking a step back from Easter, Ferrero has singled out Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day as key opportunities for growth this spring, and has rolled out some NPD to make the most of this.

Ferrero plans to support retailers across both occasions through range extensions, limited edition product formats and seasonally relevant packaging, which will all be underpinned with multi-channel media support.

Boorer commented: “For Ferrero Rocher, Ferrero Collection and Raffaello the core range leads sales as shoppers trust the product and recognise it as a high-quality option when looking for a gift for their loved ones.

“Ferrero Collection will have two seasonally relevant packs for Mother’s Day, one ribbon pack and one “Just for you” sleeve pack.

“Raffaello achieved fantastic results in 2018 and saw retail sales value increase by 22%. A New T8 80G Matchbox pack is being launched in 2019, featuring versatile designs to cater to multiple occasions. The special edition T14 heart also returns for spring 2019.

“Ferrero will be supporting the line up with a digital campaign coupled with one of the UK’s biggest sampling activities ever, set to reach five million potential consumers and provide three million samples.”
