Gluten-free market expands

A GLASGOW-based brewery has become the latest brand to try and appeal to the free-from market, by creating a certified gluten-free beer.

The Merchant City Brewing Company’s gluten-free Session Ale is an easy-drinking light ale with a balanced biscuit malt flavour.

Alan Rimmer, co-founder, Merchant City Brewing Company said: “As consumers continue to be health conscious it’s important that we are able to offer an alternative for people who may have an intolerance to barley or wheat, but without compromising on taste.

“However, because of our brewing process and flavourings, most of our beers have a very low measurement of gluten anyway, but consumers need the reassurance of the certification”.

The beer is available in 500ml bottles and has an RRP of £2.50.

The Merchant City Brewing Company has enjoyed early success since launching in 2017, including a Silver Award at the SIBA National Independent Beer Awards.
