CONFECTIONERY staple Swizzels turns 90 this year and the brand is offering retailers a chance to get in on the celebrations via a new merchandising competition.

As part of the birthday celebrations for Swizzels, the brand is offering retailers the chance to enter a ‘Display to Win’ prize draw exclusive to convenience retailers throughout August and September.

Prizes on offer include free stock and an iPad. To be in with a chance of winning, retailers are invited to post a photo showing how they merchandise Swizzels’ ‘super 6’ hanging bag range, which includes Choos, Squashies and Loadsa packs. An entry form is available through Swizzels’ website.

Consumers will also be offered a chance to celebrate with Swizzels, as the brand is now challenging the public to create their own ‘Sweetest Invention’, with the winning entry going on to be created at the firm’s factory.

Competition entries will be shortlisted by a panel of Swizzels judges before being put to a public vote.

We want our loyal fans to get creative and help us make the next big sweet in the sugar confectionery world.

Jeremy Dee, managing director of Swizzels, said of the 90th birthday: “We’re hugely proud to be celebrating 90 years in the confectionery industry.

“Building on the popularity of our best-selling brands, we continue to innovate and reformulate with modern creations to meet and exceed consumer demands.

“Now, we want our loyal fans to get creative and help us make the next big sweet in the sugar confectionery world. By inviting consumers to invent their own sweet, we are giving them a platform to express what they would like to see produced for the category, which is invaluable to ensure we continue to lead the industry and give consumers exactly what they want.

“We are also looking forward to many more years working with and supporting our highly valued customers and suppliers,” he said.

• Swizzels may be 90 but the firm isn’t showing any signs of slowing up when it comes to NPD and sales growth.

Mark Walker, sales director at Swizzels revealed Swizzels sales are up 14% year on year, with the big night in a key driver of this growth.

“The big night in continues to be hugely popular as consumers remain conscious about their spending.

“Sugar confectionery is always a strong seller for big nights in, particularly in hanging bag formats as these are perfect for sharing with family and friends,”said Walker.

“Swizzels hanging bags are worth over £50m and in 24% growth.”
