SCOTLAND’S burgeoning craft beer scene has been given another lift by Lidl as the German discounter embarks on its third Isle of Ale festival.

Lidl claims this year’s festival is worth £75,000 to Scotland’s brewing sector.

The beer festival kicked off on 24 May with a collection of 19 beers from 13 Scottish independent breweries.

Caroline Wengel, business development manager for Scotland Food & Drink and The Brewers Association of Scotland said: “We are delighted that Lidl is holding its craft beer festival again for the third time.

Paul McQuade, Lidl’s head buyer for Scotland said: “Sales of speciality beer at Lidl Scotland have grown by 25% in the last year.”
