GROUND has been broken at discounter Lidl’s new Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) at Eurocentral in North Lanarkshire.

Lidl is working with construction firm Winvic Construction Ltd to build the RDC, which the firm reckons will create up to 360 additional jobs when opened.

The new facility is scheduled for completion by winter 2019.

Lidl’s new RDC will replace its current warehouse in Livingston, first opened in 1996. The relocation forms part of Lidl’s commitment to invest £1.45bn in the UK over 2017-18.

Ross Millar, Lidl UK’s MD for Scotland, said: “As we continue to invest in our property portfolio and open new stores, it is vital to have the supply chain infrastructure to support this.

“Our new distribution centre is therefore necessary to secure our future growth in Scotland.

“It is equally important to be able to provide new job opportunities for the local economy in addition to the existing jobs we currently have. As such, we’re incredibly excited to break ground and start the build.”
