INDUSTRY charity GroceryAid has said that it helped a record number of people in the 12 months to 31 March.

The charity revealed that the number of people turning to it for assistance was up 27% last year, and its welfare spend rose to a record £4.5m.

Steve Barnes, chief executive of GroceryAid, said the charity is proud to support so many people, but is aware this indicates an increase in the numbers needing assistance.

“Now more than ever, we need our industry to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with colleagues who need help,” he said.
