Tight purses hurting sales

SALES growth for Scottish retailers stalled in January following a strong Christmas, new figures have revealed.
The Scottish Retail Consortium – KPMG Retail Sales Monitor found total sales for January 2017 were down 3.5% on the same period last year, with food sales down 2.6% and a 4.3% dip for everything else.
SRC director David Lonsdale said the results were “somewhat dreich”.
“After extravagances of the festive period, which saw solid sales growth in December and indeed during the final few months of last year, shoppers were clearly keeping a firmer grip on purses and wallets,” he said.
