Scots favour old favourites

DESPITE relatively mild winter weather, porridge company Hamlyns of Scotland has reported a positive seasonal performance, with like-for-like sales across the range well ahead of last year.
The company says its instant porridge pots and sachets are performing particularly well, as the trend for porridge on the go continues to grow.
Managing director Alan Meikle said: “When we were developing our pots and sachets for the porridge-on-the-go sector, we considered a wide variety of flavour combinations, but in the end, as a traditional Scottish company, we decided that the Scottish favourites – plain porridge and golden syrup – would work best for our brand.
“Sales of these two varieties far outstrips sales of our third variety, mixed berry porridge, reaffirming our consumer research which showed that we Scots do follow traditions.”
Hamlyns is running an on-pack competition with Go Ape on Hamlyns Scottish Porridge Oats and Scottish Oatmeal throughout the winter, driving sales for the traditional range.
