Markinch store hosts Healthy Living Day for local school pupils

HEALTHY eating was the talk of Fife recently when Nisa Local store Greens of Markinch hosted a Healthy Living Day for 300 local school children.
Fruit and veg samples, healthy soup and sandwiches were laid on as each class from Markinch Primary was guided through an interactive presentation.
Store staff supported three representatives of the SGF Healthy Living Programme as they encouraged the kids to try all sorts of fruit and veg including some they might not have encountered before such as watermelon and avocado.

And before each visitor left with a goodie bag of fruit and water, there was a fun quiz when they were asked to identify exotic fruit and vegetables like guava, Sharon fruit and pak choi.
Business development manager at the store, Dougie Anderson, said: “It was a fun day and I think the kids learned a fair bit. The teachers were all complimentary about what we were doing and a number of parents have given us very positive feedback through the shop’s Facebook page.”
Nisa provided all the fruit and veg for the day, AG Barr donated Strathmore Water for the goodie bags, Lomond Foods contributed the soup and Warburtons provided sandwich thins.

Dougie and the team now plan to take a similar event right into the school later in the year to promote healthy breakfast choices.
The SGF Healthy Living Programme is encouraging retailers across Scotland to get involved. Information can be found at EatBetterFeelBetter.co.uk or by calling 0131 343 7602.
