UWS MD Asim Sarwar: Sustained investment.

UNITED Wholesale (Scotland) has reported a £5m rise in turnover last year.

Turnover was up to £227m for the year ending December 31, 2015. Pre-tax profit remained steady at just over £2m.

The wholesaler grew its business over the period, acquiring M9 Cash & Carry in October 2015 and increasing staff numbers from 240 to 253, as well as investing in its symbol franchise operation.

The group now has over 530 stores under its Day Today and U-Save fascias, which, it says, continue to perform well in a very competitive market.

Managing director Asim Sarwar said: “The recent financial performance has been delivered during a sustained period of investment for United Wholesale.

“The launch of United M9 during 2015 has given us a new strategic base to grow our sales in the east of Scotland.

“Our customer-focused strategy has enabled us to drive greater value in the supply chain, enabling our independent retailer network to compete with supermarkets and larger retailers.”
