DUNDEE could be about to ride the craft beer wave as planning permission has been granted to 71 Brewing for the creation of a 2,400-litre brewery in the heart of the city.

The team behind 71 Brewing is Dundonian Duncan Alexander and Mark Griffiths.

The pair have secured over £650,000 in funding to enable them to convert a 7,200 sq ft industrial warehouse on Bellfield Street into the city’s first brewery for nearly 50 years.

Alexander, who has spent the last five years running a community microbrewery in Edinburgh and will be head brewer at 71 Brewing, said: “I’m a very proud Dundonian and wanted the city to contribute to this great new beer revolution that is sweeping the country.”

“Dundee is undergoing a period of significant regeneration and investment.

“ We want 71 Brewing to become synonymous with this new and growing confidence and weave ourselves into the fabric of the city.”
