Can numbers down in 2015

POOR weather, the lack of a major televised sports event,  and imports of drinks filled overseas have been blamed by UK can makers for a fall in sales of drinks cans made in Britain last year.

Industry trade body the Can Makers said can deliveries from British manufacturers were 9.628bn, in 2015, a fall of 1.9% on 2014.

Deliveries of cans for beer and cider were down 1.5% but fruit cider in cans and craft beer in cans were areas of significant growth.

In the soft drinks sector, shipments of cans were 5.1bn, a reduction of 2.3%.

Strongbow Dark Fruit was a canned drink that was a major success last year. But overall can making fell.
