As he prepares to retire, Phillips 66’s Pete George reflects on what makes the company work.

PETE George, managing director of Phillips 66 UK and Ireland Marketing, the company behind Jet, has announced his retirement following 45 years in the company.
Mary Wolf will assume the role from 2 October.
Pete, who joined the company in 1970, is a well-known industry figure. Throughout his career he has taken on a number of roles across the business, eventually being promoted to his current position in 2012. The company was undergoing significant change at the time with ConocoPhillips splitting into upstream and downstream companies, which led to Phillips 66.
Asked what he hoped to leave behind as his legacy, he said: “An organisation that has a great attitude towards getting things done efficiently by helping and supporting each other. No egos, no politics – that’s what our customers demand and they are the reason we are here.
“I have to give credit to the new leaders for making Phillips 66 a great place to work. It was not an easy decision to leave because of this and I am very envious of the younger folk who have so many great opportunities ahead.”
He added: “I would like to reassure our customers that they shouldn’t see any major changes in direction at Phillips 66. It’s business as usual and I have every confidence that Mary will be an ideal successor to take the business forward and secure continued growth.
“The expertise, knowledge and attitude of the employees within UK and Ireland Marketing is what drives this organisation forward, and I am proud to have been a part of such a successful company.”

Jet continues to expand its operations in Scotland. One of the latest sites to be secured – and the most northerly – is Ormlie Filling Station in Thurso.

• Jet has secured its most northerly Scottish site following the signing of a five year contract to supply Ormlie Filling Station in Thurso, the most northerly town in mainland Scotland.
Following a nine-month redevelopment project, Ormlie Filling Station will reopen to the public in early May. Significant investment will see the site have a new Lifestyle Express convenience store and improved forecourt facilities.
The announcement comes on the back of other news for the fuel brand in Scotland, including the recent launch of a retail support concept working with Spar, a deal with Amazon to make Amazon’s outdoor parcel lockers available to Jet dealers, and the re-signing of a contract with Springburn Service Station in Glasgow – a 48-nozzle site that is the largest site in Jet’s Scottish network.
Jet was also the fuel brand of choice for Co-operative Food following a £5m programme of investment to overhaul its Aberfeldy filling station and supermarket. Four new Jet sites have joined Jet’s Scottish network so far this year, with three others committed to join.
