Brothers Zahid and Shahid Nasim, whose family had been co-owners of Alfa for 24 years before the buy-out, are joint managing directors. Zahid said: “We see a great future for this company.

“With RBS’s support we are now investing in our direct delivery service, an important aspect to growing the business by ensuring we can offer greater flexibility and convenience to our customers.

“Investment in the business will also include further expansion of the ethnic food offering.

“Ultimately we want to expand the entire operation and we intend to open bigger premises in Glasgow over the next two years. ”

Lesley Stark, relationship director at RBS, said: “Alfa is a solid business built on its close customer relationships and record of being a wholesaler of choice. The buy-out enables the Nasim family to take the company to the next stage. “
