2014 – a big whisky year

THE off-trade should be gearing up for bumper whisky sales during Scotland’s big year.

That’s the word from Maxxium UK, the company behind The Famous Grouse, Laphroaig and The Macallan, which is predicting a surge in interest from tourists enjoying the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games.
“International visitors will undoubtedly be geared up to try Scotch whisky in its homeland – whether for the first time, or looking for something new and different to try and then perhaps take home as a keepsake,” said Mark Riley, the company’s off-trade sales director.

• Isle of Arran Distillers has just released its oldest malt to date. The Arran Malt 17 Year Old is a limited edition of 9,000 bottles. “We’re very proud of the latest edition as it has been a long time coming,” said MD, Euan Mitchell.
