Melting into a makeover

IT’S more than 40 years since Helen Dean set out to bake shortbread in her Huntly kitchen to raise funds for the local pipe band. It wasn’t long before she was making it commercially and Dean’s has since grown to employ around 130 people and now exports its products to 28 countries across the world.

Most recently Dean’s has been working on a major brand refresh, and new-look packs are starting to appear on store shelves across the country.
Bill Dean, managing director at Dean’s and son of founder Helen said: “The pack design overall is cleaner and more contemporary, and reaction so far from the trade as well as consumers has been very encouraging.”

New Deans packs highlight the term “melt in the mouth” and emphasise that the company’s biscuits are baked by hand.

The firm has also recently entered new sectors. It has launched in the free-from category with its new gluten-free shortbread range and has introduced a whisky fruit cake in conjunction with Highland distiller Tomatin.
