Freeze is on for hot days

MORE freezers in stores and the launch of several new products are among Unilever’s plans to boost summer ice cream sales.

As reported in Scottish Grocer last month, the Cornetto and Magnum brand owner is aiming to reach five times as many retailers to offer advice, guidance and support.

A range of new products across its most popular brands, in singles and multipacks, are among Unilever’s plans for summer this year alongside investment in its sales force.

It is also launching new products for some of its most popular brands including Twister and Feast.

The new products include Twister Blackcurrant in a six pack with an RRP of £2.49, Feast Snack Bar six-pack at £2.25, Magnum Double three-pack for £3.35 and Cornetto Choc ‘n’ Caramel Disc at £2.29 for a four-pack.

Brand building director for ice cream at Unilever UK & Ireland Noel Clarke said: “Ice Cream presents a huge growth opportunity for retailers and manufacturers.

“As an impulse category, this growth potential will be unlocked by delighting consumers at the first moment of truth – the store.

“To help deliver strong sales for retailers this summer, we are significantly investing in our sales force, freezer distribution and product innovations.”

Tapping into the continuing demand for healthier treats, Unilever recently launched Solero Red Berries.

Solero brand manager Louise Morley said: “We hope this new innovation will be the perfect guilt-free summer treat for adults at only 11 calories.”

Solero is supporting the launch with an updated logo and new packaging design across its exotic and red berries flavours to highlight the brand’s fresh and natural fruit properties.
