Scots biscuit giant gets set to celebrate

WHILE many biscuits firms and brands talk about a taste of tradition the Scottish company Tunnock’s reckons it has a stronger reason to do so than most.

“You can pick up any pack from the Tunnock’s product range and all the information the consumer expects and needs is there,” a spokesperson said.

“One item of information that is on every single pack, and always has been, is worth considering and thinking about – ‘Established 1890. Still a family business’.”

Tunnock’s, 125 years old this year, is as relevant to Scottish life as it has always been, as the appearance of the famous Teacake in last year’s Commonwealth Games opening ceremony showed, the company says.

Tunnock’s reckons it gives Scots a connection to the period when Scotland was a manufacturing powerhouse.

A modern chocolate biscuit factory is every bit as complex as any shipyard or foundry ever was and arguably faces even more ferocious competition, it argues.

But, it says, despite modern challenges Tunnock’s range of products continues to appeal to consumers of all types.
